I thought of the game Red Rover Red Rover recently as I reflected on scriptures about being chosen by God.  It reminded me of my days in elementary school playing games and the deep desire to be chosen, to belong, to be wanted, etc…

Do you remember lining up to be chose by two captains to play a game?  As names are being called, you may have been one who was relieved that you weren’t called last or toward the end.  Or perhaps, you were one of the last ones standing or the last one chosen.  Your heart sank just a little lower as others were called ahead of you.  The elation of being wanted or the pain of being chosen last are both real. I remember those days well.

However, in God’s “playground,” I am chosen.  I am wanted.  I belong to a plan customized just for me.  I am valued.  I am someone worth dying for… and so are you. Here are just a few things God writes for you:

you are chosen Eph 1 4

John 15:16
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – the fruit that will last.

Ephesians 1:4
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight

II Thessalonians 2:13
But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.

I Thessalonians 1:4
For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you

The desire to belong and to be loved have not changed.  I know those desires are in my heart.  At times, I do feel lonely but I am never alone.  I am a daughter of the King chosen by Him to bear fruit and to love.  May you know deep in your heart you are chosen and loved as well.  As a result, may you love those around you that God puts in your path shining light into the darkness that so often prevails.

greatest is love
